All starting producers I had a chance to work with always ask me one specific question. “How do you mix your kick and bass, because I always get stuck on that”. It is not always kick & bass of course, it can be other instruments or parts in their tracks but here’s where I stopped them.

I understand we all want the same thing. Clean, punchy, amazingly sounding tracks with unforgettable melodies that our fans will adore for years to come. Problem with this of course ends with tons of unfinished music because the producer focuses on having a killer kick bass combo while completely forgetting to grasp the initial idea of their masterpiece and turning it into a finished track.

I did this mistake myself many times and I can tell you I spent hundreds of hours tweaking that kick and bass or lead sound over and over and eventually ended up with amazing combo with no use and purpose. And the reason why? Well I lost that drive I started this new song with. Idea was gone and all that was left was tired ears and utter disgust of all days work.

Here is the fix for all this. Stop worrying about how your track sounds. Just use your idea, that drive and inspiration while you are in the zone. Music isn’t always about perfect kick and bass Some of the best songs out there are not perfect, some might have even horrible sound when you listen closely but no one cares because they are amazing to listen to.

You can do the mix after your song is done or you can send it to mixing engineer. What is truly important is to get that idea out before it disappears into the abyss and your potential big track is gone for good.
