Product Description
This is the second episode in a 12 part series of tutorial videos dedicated to Trance Music Production. This series will cover every aspect of music production (apart from Mastering) and will continually develop your skills when applied correctly. Episode 1 (Starting Template) is available here.
Episode 2 starts off where the previous episode ended. We have our basic “starting template” done, but it’s empty and we now want to start building a new track using it. How do we start ? What should the main track structure be for trance music ? How to add different elements to the track ? Adam shows us all of this step by step (and more). In this episode, you’ll also find out how the work done in Episode 1 (preparing all the channels and busses) will prove extremely useful for building the track.
Who is this tutorial for ?
This tutorial is for artists who want to work faster and improve their sound at the same time. It’s aimed at Logic Pro X users, but the tricks you will learn can also be applied in other DAWs.
What You Will Learn
In this 62 minute long video, Adam will show you :
– How to build the overall structure of your trance track
– Using professional tracks as a reference for structure
– Understanding different elements & instruments of the track and when they should play
– Learn how the kick drum is one of the key markers for trance structure
– How to create transitions with the kick (patterns, kick rolls & filter changes)
– Introducing the different elements : percussion elements / loops, bassline parts, atmospheres, FX
– Getting the sounds working together (in order to save time for the mixing stage)
– Bringing elements in smoothly (drums, basslines) with filter / EQ automations
– Getting a solid clap with layering & processing
– Making elements more interesting with panning automation & reverb automation
– Adding background atmospheres (that respond to each other) to give ambience & depth to your track
You can watch this video and prepare your own track structure based on Adam’s suggestions in Logic Pro X. If you want to save even more time and get inspired, we have also included Adam’s Logic Pro X project file from the video. This can then be used for inspiration, learning, or as a basis for your upcoming tracks.
Package Contents
– The video tutorial (62 minutes long , 1080p quality, in english)
– The Logic Pro X project file as created in the video
I’m using another DAW, not Logic Pro X. Can I still benefit from buying this tutorial ?
Yes, you can still learn the concepts and techniques that Adam uses in his productions, and apply them in your own DAW.
About Adam Ellis
Powerful, euphoric melodies and relentless energy are only some of the illuminative qualities that Adam Ellis contains within his own special blend of euphoric Trance, and his rising reputation has become synonymous with the elite, international Trance fraternity within the last two years. Born and bred in Sheffield, England, (where the first, legendary Superclub, Gatecrasher One, was born), his humble upbringing has culminated into the quintessential underdog story where hard work and driven ambitions has ultimately brought about huge successes within his short career.
Harboring a fierce passion for music, Adam dedicated many years to music production before making his first major impact with a fantastic remix to the seminal Planet Perfecto classic, ‘Bullet In The Gun’. Adam graciously reworked the iconic hit into a modern, peak time floorfiller, and reaped huge support by the main man himself, Paul Oakenfold. Additionally, this breakthrough remix was personally selected as an exclusive addition to ‘Perfecto Records Collected – Volume Three’ mix compilation.
In the way of original productions, Adam delivered a fierce opening act with his debut single of ‘Napalm Poet’ on Kearnage Recordings in the Summer of 2013, and it quickly became a feature track in the sets of many leading artists including John O Callaghan, Bryan Kearney, Aly & Fila, Simon Patterson & Armin van Buuren, (to name a few). This was Adam’s first number 1 track on Beatport and was one of the highlights in the finale of the ASOT 600 celebrations at the Who’s Afraid Of 138?! Stage. Even today, many diehard Trance fans consider this single to be one of, (if not the best), Uplifting productions of 2013.
What followed after his success with his 2013 single debut was his Subculture premiere entitled ‘Mandarine’, which also topped the Beatport Trance Top 100 charts and was supported by Manuel Le Saux, Richard Durand, Indecent Noise and many more. Adam then went on to produce two more Top 10 singles in 2014 including his astonishing follow up from ‘Napalm Poet’ of ‘Agent Orange’, and has had nearly every single of his career played on ASOT. As far as collaborations go, Adam has worked with 2 of the leading names in the Trance scene today with Bryan Kearney & Menno De Jong and their combined might has brought about the classic remix of Conductor & The Cowboy’s ‘Feeling This Way’ and the wondrous collaborative single, ‘Solicitude’, (respectively).
He is also well known for his stellar remixes of John O Callaghan’s ‘Big Sky’, Menno De Jong’s ‘Creatures Of The Night’, and these reworks strive to further showcase his signature, Uplifting sound. Lately, his remixes to Mark Sherry’s A Star With A Star and Jordan Suckley’s Contaminated have been fantastic additions to his growing discography, and his reworks of Liam Wilson’s Kiss and Lange & Susana’s Risk Worth Taking were featured on Solarstone’s Pure Trance Vol. 3 and Lange’s We Are Happy People remixes album.
As a DJ, Adam intense vigor for the vintage sounds of Uplifting and Tech Trance has culminated into a stunning array of music that extends from iconic classics from artists such as Giuseppe Ottaviani and Aly & Fila to the latest in cutting edge Trance sounds. Fueled with fire and power, his relentless display of mighty melodies and spellbinding breakdowns have brought about amazing reception for his fans, and has allotted him certain opportunities to play at some of the world’s biggest clubs, including his recent debut at Cream, Amnesia in Ibiza, which is considered one of the biggest arenas for Trance in the world.
As one of the rare breed of producers who writes 100% of their own material without the help of engineers or ghost writers, Adam has many more projects in the works to be released on Kearnage Recordings, AVA, Damaged, Outburst, Pure Trance, Blackhole Recordings and much more. With the future looking exceptionally bright for this young underdog, the start of 2015 is only going to add fuel to the growing movement behind his music and unite them within his revitalised golden age of Trance.

I’m a little disappointed in this second episode, I thought to discover in this volume all initially for the Trance in Logic Pro X. I am not at all bilingual, I base myself on the explanations in pictures and on 62 minutes only, 30 minutes are useful to me, it does little for the price. On this video, Adam we still add plugins and shows us all a library of samples that must have, but that I don’t own. These videos is still for people already confirmed, that on hundreds of library and plugins in their computer and not for amateurs, it do not have the technique to build the trance. Music is a hobby for me, this is not my work. I have little be purchased a few plugins and samples Myloops, but I will not be able to follow. I think I’ll stop at the second episode. Damage

Wow, another great tutorial. There are thousands of tutorials that I’ve come across on how to produce over the few years. One tip is to have a reference track but I never knew how to use it to my full ability. Adam Ellis shows why and how to use it to your benefit. Which was mind blowing and that was in the first 10 mins and that was just one section of the video. The tips Adam gives on producing is invaluable/brilliant. Yes, there are lots of VST’s involved and samples but you can follow with other software/Vst’s and sample libraries.Cracking tutorial. I look forward to the next one.!

I really like and enjoy this tutorial series so far.
It helped me a lot to understand a few more thinks about trance. The only problem is that there are a lot of “professional” Plugins been used. But it is no problem to recreate it with the standard ones in a lower quality.
But at the end it is a nice tutorial and it will definitely help to improve the understanding of Trance Production
Im looking forward for upcoming tutorials

Like the first tutorial, Adam continues with a professional presentation showing how to structure a trance track and it does help to use your existing favorite tracks to help with the track layout. Thanks again Adam for showing some really good tips with plugins which luckly I have some of them, but it would be good to demonstrate using standard DAW plugins within Logic Pro X. Regardless, a good insite into structure building your tracks. Thanks Adam.

Another very useful tutorial for people like me whose only opportunities to learn is with online tutorials. As the previous reviewer I agree Adam should stick to Logic’s built it plug-ins. As I mainly work in Ableton a similar tutorial could be offered for Live users. Recommended.

Like the first tutorial this will not disappoint. Adam’s professional presentation showing the step by step procedure of a good structure for a trance track. It also has some great tips and tricks for some plugins and how to use the EQ to make your track sound more fuller. Even as a cubase user i would highly recommend this tutorial.

My opinion about this second tutorial is the same as the first. It’s a great job from Adam. I don’t know if Adam always use the same method to create his songs (I don’t think so) but I miss a longer explanation about the structure, because Adam only focus the explanation of the beginning of the song.
It would be great have the video in full HD 1080p and with subtitles.

Hey all. I always try to do the best I can with these tutorials, but like everything in life, you cant please everyone. I have taken on board some feedback after randomly stumbling across the reviews on each video. I will try improve the videos with this feedback.
If you can suggest how I can improve them in the future, please email me

Like the first tutorial, the second one is also very helpful. Adam shows you how to structure your track, especially the beginning of the track. You will also get tips on how to EQ. Again you can use other plugins and samples to recreate your own track. Thank you Adam.

Another great tutorial. As with the first one this is easy to follow with clear step by step instructions. If you buy this one you should definitely consider the others in the series. Worth every penny. This tutorial will save you hours in the studio. Loved the concept of using a reference track to help guid you with your own projects.

Again a very useful and great tutorial! Adam Ellis explains everything very well, again with nice tips, tricks and techniques. All is easy for understanding. This tutorial together with the other tutorials helped me a lot with how I work now. I can say I learned a lot! Thanks, this is a great product!

Another great video from Adam which helped me with the one thing I find hardest to do, namely structure out the track. Using a reference track is such a simple but brilliant idea as it not only helps you with the arrangement but also gives you some guidance on the sound and helps with mixing. I really like Adam’s style and cannot wait to learn from this guy. Many thanks.

I’ve always struggled with formal structure/arrangement so I was super excited to see Adam Ellis do this Adam Ellis Trance Production Tutorials #2 – Structure & Starting The Track. I always enjoy watching how other producers structure their tracks but Adam seems to have a formula that works for him so I will adopt this.
Copesetic Audio –
After watching episode one, I was eager to see how the song starts. If I was only to review the video, I’d have to continue praising it the way I did the first one but since it came with an incomplete logic file I have to take some points off. I was looking forward to working out rather building up on Adam’s project but after opening the session, ALL the samples were missing. Very upsetting… but the video was good. Again, very informative and inspiring!
